One-Day Workshop on Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction Successfully Concluded at IET Lucknow

Active participation of 631 students along with representatives from 7 departments and 20 districts; NDRF mock drill remained the main highlight

A One-Day Workshop on “Youth and Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction (CBDRR)” was successfully organized at the Institute of Engineering & Technology (IET), Lucknow, under the aegis of Sewa Bharati Awadh Prant, in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). The workshop concluded in a grand and impactful manner on Saturday at the IET campus.

The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation of 631 students of IET Lucknow, along with members of the Provincial Executive Committee of Sewa Bharati Awadh Prant, Departmental General Secretaries, District General Secretaries, and Disaster Management Wing Heads at the district and department levels. Representatives from 7 Vibhag and 20 districts of Sewa Bharati actively participated in the program.

Dignified Presence of Eminent Guests

The program commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp.The Chief Guest, Shri Yudhveer Ji (Kshetra Seva Pramukh, Purvi Uttar Pradesh, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh), emphasized in his address that community participation plays a vital role in disaster management, and preparing youth for such responsibilities is the need of the hour.

The workshop was presided over by Shri Ravindra Gangwar Ji, (President, Sewa Bharati Awadh Prant).Dr. Vineet Kansal Ji, (Director, Institute of Engineering & Technology, Lucknow), graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour.

The event also witnessed the gracious presence of Dr. Pradeep Vajpayee, (Registrar, IET Lucknow), Shri Surya Prakash Tiwari Ji, (Disaster Management Wing Head, Sewa Bharati Awadh Prant), and senior office bearers of Seva Bharti.

The program was smoothly and effectively anchored by Dr. Pragati Shukla, (Assistant Professor, Department of Applied Sciences, IET Lucknow), whose coordination ensured seamless conduct of all sessions.

Academic and Expert Sessions

During the technical sessions, Dr. Nikhil Gangwar, (Structural Engineer & Ph.D. in Disaster Management), delivered an insightful lecture on disaster management, structural safety, and community participation, highlighting the importance of preparedness and mitigation strategies.

Following this, Ms. Akanksha Pandey, (Assistant Professor of Disaster Management, Rashtriya Raksha University, Lucknow Campus), conducted an engaging session using disaster-based case studies, providing students and volunteers with practical insights and real-world learning experiences.

NDRF Mock Drill – The Major Attraction

The major highlight of the workshop was the live mock drill and rescue demonstration conducted by NDRF at 2:00 PM.Under the leadership of Shri Manoj Sharma, (Deputy Inspector General, National Disaster Response Force), the trained NDRF team demonstrated safe evacuation procedures, emergency response techniques, rescue operations, discipline, and coordination during disaster situations.

The mock drill provided students, volunteers, and officials with hands-on exposure to real-life disaster scenarios, significantly enhancing their understanding of emergency preparedness and response.

Objective of the Workshop

The primary objective of the workshop was to promote disaster preparedness, rapid response, community participation, leadership skills, and the spirit of service among youth, volunteers, and Sewa Bharati functionaries, thereby strengthening community resilience against disasters.

Certificate Distribution and Conclusion

At the conclusion of the program, certificates were distributed to student volunteers, Sewa Bharati office bearers, speakers, and the NDRF team in recognition of their participation and contributions.The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks, marking the successful completion of a meaningful and impactful initiative.
